STATE OF THE ART The light was red, no it was green. No, red. Alyssa still wasn’t sure as she sat in the passenger seat of her car after her visit to the doctor, Steven was driving. She’d been sick for days and hardly eating much of anything. That’s when she shrieked seeing the other vehicle heading for them much too fast. The crunching of metal as she put her arms out to brace herself. The backseat of the Toyota was totaled. Alyssa all but fell into Steven as the car started spinning. Oh she was going to be sick again. No sooner did the car stop spinning that she got sick all over the floor in front of her. Though the minute she was done with tossing her stomach contents she looked over to see if Steven was alright.
“Steven” She unbuckled her seatbelt and got herself away from the pinched seats. There was shattered glass all over the backseat. Alyssa looked for anything obvious. She was no medic but there was the basic common sense stuff. She was breathing rapidly and yet moving robotically to check on him. Her head was hurting and her stomach still felt like it was on a tilt-a-whirl without her.
Alyssa was angry, angry at the idiot who was driving and had hit them. Alyssa called the emergency number and gave them all of the information she had. “Steven, babe can you hear me?” She wasn’t sure if she’d been heard earlier or if he’d hit something. She’d been too busy being sick. Alyssa still felt dizzy and so she laid across Steven’s lap. Would the car ever appear to stop spinning?
OOC: Omgosh if Shani and Beth are the two that are sent. I'd laugh since Shani and Steven hate each other so much.

Driving made sense to him, after the doctor’s appointment Steven figured it was a flu. The one that had been going around though he had never expected the news that they had received. He hardly knew what to say to Alyssa, after all it was unexpected and of course if they had been attempted it then he would have gone about things a little differently. Steven was still trying to come up with a meaningful set of words for Alyssa beyond what he had already said but he was falling short when he saw the light. Stopping her car there as he waited for the green light he glanced in the mirror only to see that someone else was unaware. There was no time to start the Toyota and floor it out of the way as driving into oncoming traffic was a bad idea anyway. Steven threw his arm out to Alyssa to try and stop her from hitting anything though his bracing seemed to do little as the car started to spin. He felt his head hit against the window and the pain in his shoulder and neck but as soon as the car stopped he felt like his head was going to explode. Before he could focus on what had happened he heard Alyssa tossing her stomach contents onto the floor of the car as he winced. He could hear his name though it took him a minute to work out who said what. Angry was only the half of it as Steven seemed to realise what had happened the minute Alyssa asked if he could hear her. “Alyssa.” He said feeling the panic rising inside him as he reached out for her. Steven unbuckled his seatbelt as it took all his will power to stay in the car and not drag the other driver from theirs. He ran his fingers over Alyssa’s arm as he took a breath. “Are you hurt? Does anything hurt?” He asked her as the paramedic seemed to kick in, his fingers dragged down her spine feeling for anything out of place, pain or anything generally wrong. “I’ll get my...Never mind.” Steven stated before he realised he was in her car and not his as that had a medic bag in the boot. “The baby, are you okay, how do you feel?” He asked her as he knew she was already feeling sick but this complicated things a lot. Notes: Haha sure those two can answer the call, it can be all kinds of fun then haha Alyssa Zorin,

STATE OF THE ART Alyssa felt Steven’s fingers on her arm. Too many questions. She tried to process them but everything was spinning. Inevitably, she remained in Steven’s lap while everything kept spinning around her. “I’m dizzy. I didn’t hit my head though. You?” She threw the question back on him but only after she had answered his. The last thing she needed was to be trapped in a car with a worried paramedic boyfriend. That never usually went well for her.
Feeling his hands all down her spine she could tell he was worrying. “My stomach hurts.” Well her stomach had been upset for days, her stomach hurting wasn’t anything new. “But not anymore than it has been recently.” No, she didn’t want him to worry but she was going to be honest with him. She’d learned to stop arguing with him when it was important things, but other times she’d start an amusing argument just for the sake of a reaction. Not here, and not now.
Alyssa focused on one point until she lifted her head out of his lap. “You hit your head.” She could see where he’d hurt his head. “I feel really sick and dizzy but you need to let someone do the something with the head scanner thing something a jigger.” Yeah well medical stuff wasn’t her thing, but she knew enough to know that you got your head scanned when you smacked it.
Sirens, she could hear sirens. They must have been close because she saw firetrucks pulling up rather quickly. Alyssa could barely make out in the distance what department they were from.
Stephanie was the first one to the car and she was asking for jaws so she could rip the door open and get the two out. “Care to fill me in Hudson?” She stated trying to make normal conversation. “I need you both to keep as still as possible.” Stephanie didn’t know Alyssa other than as some mystery woman of Steven’s.
Alyssa heard Stephanie and didn’t dare try to test the theory. No, she just wanted out of here. “Spinning things and babies don’t mix. Can I get off the tilt-a-whirl now?” Alyssa chided from Steven’s lap.

It was entirely different being on the other end of the scale; he could already hear the klaxon going off in the fire house. The address and information read out for the crash and the conversation in the ambulance on the way there. He just prayed that the crazy McGuire was off duty that day, she had lost her husband but it seemed that just made her worse in his mind. They had common ground but talking to that woman was like rubbing against sandpaper. Steven just smiled and nodded at Alyssa, he was alright. Bumps and bruises but he hardly cared about himself; it was her he was worried about. “I am fine, been in worse accidents.” Steven stated knowing that because Alyssa had been there when he had broken his leg in the ambulance crash. Was it plausible that he was cursed as a driver? No he thought though his attention was taken when Alyssa said her stomach hurt. He could feel his heart sink though the floor as he nodded. “It’s okay baby, I know it hurts but it will be okay. I’ll get you to the hospital as far as we can.” He said trying to make her feel better as he moved his hand from her spine onto her stomach carefully. His touch was feather light as he hardly wanted to do any damage to her though he tried to feel for anything that was out of place. Paramedic mode he was thankful for. “Okay but just keep telling me what hurts and you’re still going to the hospital to get checked out.” He said worried about her and the baby that he never knew existed until moments ago. Steven knew he should have guessed before now but the thought had never entered his head. “Yeah but no damage, it’s okay. Thick skull and all.” He joked though he found himself laughing when she spoke about the CT scanner. "I like your description of it." He said smiling. “Alyssa just focus on something, anything you want to. It should help but just keep still okay.” Steven said wishing he could make it better for her. The sirens he could hear as he saw the fire trucks though he was glad when he saw Stephanie. At least it was a familiar house he was dealing with. “Oh sure, just hanging out and an idiot fails to see what colour the light was.” Steven stated to Stephanie motioning to the other car. Ben pulled the jaws from the truck as he brought them back to Stephanie as he glanced at Hudson and the passenger, had to be the mystery girlfriend that he had ten bucks riding on that she never existed. Steven looked to Alyssa when she spoke, he could feel himself hold onto Alyssa as he took a breath. “You can get off in a minute but you just need to be still for me okay. Just a couple more minutes and I... the paramedics can give you something for the spinning and sickness.” Steven said as he glanced toward Stephanie. “Alyssa’s pregnant, we’re pregnant, we’ve just been to the doctor... the medics need to know. Promise me Stephanie nothing happens to Alyssa.” Steven said as he could see the familiar sight of the ambulance but the number was blocked from view. Stephanie knew his history or at least that his first wife had been killed in a car accident. He had only recently stopped wearing the engagement and wedding ring around his neck so sitting there. In an accident with the woman he loved who was also pregnant was terrifying. He just wanted reassurance that the fire department would do what they could and be careful. “And tell me it’s not McGurie working today?” Steven asked as he smiled towards Alyssa. “It’ll be over soon, I promise.” Alyssa Zorin,

STATE OF THE ART Alyssa usually argued with Steven over lots of things, but the hospital wasn’t one of them. She was more scared than anything but she wasn’t about to let that get the best of her. When he started in on the CT scanner she laughed a bit back but then she started cursing at the firefighter touching her. “Get the hell off of me. Don’t you fucking touch me!” Capp backed away after he was bit and stole a glance at Stephanie and Ben. Clearly Steven’s girl had a temper.
“Ben. she’s trapped under the dash. Steven, can you keep your girlfriend calm for us?” Stephanie sighed hearing the Steven say she was pregnant. “Tell 58 to hurry it up!” Stephanie barked. Her voice calmed down as she spoke to Steven. “I’ll tell them, don’t worry I’ve got your back. Nothing is going to happen to her or the baby.” Stephanie assured Steven and tried to keep him calm while they worked to get him out of the car too.
Then Steven was telling Alyssa to be calm, she started to calm down some. Then there was the comment about McGuire working. Oh boy… that was like water and oil. “I wish I had better news. McGuire and Tucker are here. She’s a mom Steven. She’s not going to let anything happen to Alyssa either.” Shani was a pain in the ass, but Stephanie knew that she’d not let anything happen to anyone in the house.
Stephanie shook off her overcoat. “Can you put this over her head, so that Ben can get her out?” She instructed Steven. It was probably better if Steven could help them out. “What about you, are you going to be able to get out or do we need to cut you out too?” Stephanie asked him. She still had to make Steven a priority.

Steven glanced at Alyssa when she started to curse at Capp, he was used to fire-fighters hovering around. The noises and the closer quarters and cramped at times working conditions. It simply went with the job though he could only try and hush Alyssa. “Like I wasn’t trying to already?” Steven said to Stephanie as he ran his hand over Alyssa’s arm lightly. “It’s okay, you’ll be out before you know it just talk to me. What do you want for dinner tonight?” Steven asked as a completely random question. Ben nodded to Stephanie as he saw where Alyssa was strapped. Steven just stared at Stephanie when she told him nothing was going to happen to Alyssa or the baby. “I cannot do that again... Stephanie. I know you do just please them first.” He said doing his best to stay calm for all involved though really there was nothing calm about this at all. Telling Alyssa to be calm, a baby was now not a distant thought but a reality and now the two people in his life were in a car accident. Calm was hardly anything he could contemplate. Steven audibly groaned hearing that McGuire was there, “She is insane, rude, sarcastic, has no people skills... I feel sorry for Tucker.” He stated though Steven knew Shani had her job back to front worked out. There was family and house family, anyone messed with either and you had not just one person but an army behind you. He just preferred to be at the other side of the planet from McGuire as likely it was much safer there. Steven took the over coat as he placed it carefully around Alyssa, “See they’ll have you out in no time. Just relax and talk to me. I won't let anyone hurt you I promise.” He said as softly as he could as he watched Ben cutting and prying his way into the car to move the dash to get Alyssa out. He could hear Ben stating something about a minute as he heard the crack of plastic and saw the shift in the dash. Steven nodded to Stephanie, “I can get out, might just need move the seat back a bit first but you make sure Alyssa is out of here. I’m not going anywhere until she’s safe.” Steven stated knowing he was being a pain in the butt but then what more could he be. Shani hated to be hurried, what did they honestly think she did? Sit there and wait until things were worse before getting to anyone injured. Shani had grabbed a couple of bags once they had parked up as she made her way to the car that had been hit. “Here Harris.” She stated taking a look when she saw that face. Great, it was Hudson. Could the man not drive now either? “You sure you don’t want us to leave him here?” Shani asked sticking her tongue out at him for a moment before she made her way around to Alyssa and Ben. “Hey Beth, you get Mr. Charisma.” She added knowing if she likely went near Steven there would be an issue. Yes they got along to a point but annoying each other and acting more like enemies than friends was more fun. She was worried, of course she was he was as much family as anyone at the house. A little like that crazy uncle that no one wanted to bring around to the house because you knew how it would go person, but family none the less. Alyssa Zorin,

STATE OF THE ART Stephanie could have spouted back at Steven but this wasn’t that time to be snapping at each other. “I know you are. I just need you to keep it up until Ben gets her out alright?” Stephanie knew she needed to keep Steven calm to keep Alyssa calm. She heard Alyssa start a conversation back with Steven. It was a start at least.
“I hadn’t thought about dinner. Anything I can keep down would be good.” Food and Alyssa right now weren’t mixing well especially with an upset stomach. Alyssa settled some as she felt Steven’s touch. It meant he had to be okay, at least that is all she could tell from the angle she was laying.
Stephanie put a hand on Steven’s shoulder. “The calmer you are, the calmer Alyssa will be and right now that’s what the baby needs alright. Ben’s going to take amazing care of Alyssa and your baby.” If anyone could keep calm dealing with a biting blonde it was Ben. Hell, if Ben could calm Stephanie then he could calm the seas and just about anything thrown his way.
Alyssa could hear the sounds of the jaws and the snapping of plastic, the only thing worse than hearing it was not seeing it. “I can make words, I don’t know if that is considered talking.” Alyssa was being a bit sarcastic as was her way. Alyssa was closing her eyes and hugging Steven’s leg at the same time. Somehow the whole mangling of the car had her more trapped than him, though he was probably more trapped in the way she was now laying.
Stephanie decided to fill Shani in quickly. “McGuire. She counts as two. I don’t know how far along she is.” Maybe that was something that Shani could coax out of Alyssa or maybe it was something Steven would volunteer to her. Stephanie made room as Beth came over and took over. Though it didn’t appear that Stephanie was going too far from the scene. Not when it meant keeping firehouse family calm.
Alyssa sat up from Steven’s lap as she moved her legs out from under the dash. Though she laid right back down from being dizzy. “I’m dizzy again.” Alyssa was trying to explain to Steven as she tried to sit back up again. Her car was completely totaled and it was all thanks to the idiot in the other car. It appeared that those who were handling the other car were not so thrilled to be doing so.
Beth and Steven, had met briefly the last time shit had hit the fan. As a precautionary measure, Beth fitted him with a c-collar while they were there. “I hear congratulations are in order. Everyone thought your girl over here was a mystery. She’s pretty, your baby is going to be adorable.” So Beth liked babies and kids, she couldn’t help it. They were innocent and sweet, people were spoiled by the seven deadly sins.
“12 and 72 are on their way?” Beth called over to Shani. There was another ambulance enroute. Well there were several in order to get all the drivers to the ambulance. “I can wait here until one of them arrives?” She could always catch up with Shani at the hospital and one of the firefighters could drive. Though she knew it was more likely they were going to play triage until the ambulances got here. Oh how she wished there were more experienced medics here to help her. Beth was still new to this and Shani was nearby but Beth couldn’t be interrupting her partner every three seconds. Her attentions turned back to Steven. “Talk to me. Tell me what hurts.” She kept herself from asking what he needed, because she already knew he’d throw out a smart ass remark but really she kind was hoping he’d be able to help her out. She couldn’t assess anything until she got him out. She pulled Steven from the car with Stephanie’s help.

“Yeah I get it.” Steven said understanding but it was a lot tougher on this side of an accident, especially today and especially when Alyssa was pregnant. They had just had that news and sure Steven was still trying to understand all of that and even have the talk with Alyssa as to what she wanted. A car accident and now yes he was obsessing and snapping at people because he was stressed and worried and had no idea where to begin with things. Dinner was the best he could do as he nodded. “Sure we can go for that, how about a stew? Or something lighter maybe just grilled chicken and greens?” He suggested though now it was all about a baby too, what food was right or wrong and having never had experience of this before. He was in at the deep end with no prior planning whatsoever. Steven glanced at Stephanie, “I am calm, this is calm.” He stated as he took a breath and kept his hand running over Alyssa’s arm as he could hear the snapping of plastic. Steven chuckled at her sarcasm, he was the one trying to keep her calm but her sarcastic comment went a long way to doing that for him. “Yeah that’s roughly what it’s considered to be. Just keep making those words, any words you want. Like supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, that has to be one of the best words.” Steven added as he watched Ben for a moment. Ben was trying to keep the plastic dash from breaking and pushing into Alyssa while trying to get her leg free as he reached down into the car. “Hey, Aylssa can you pull your leg out for me yet?” He asked her as he tried to feel around for any obstructions. Shani nodded at Stephanie for a moment before she grinned, she never knew Hudson had it in him as she chuckled. There was at least a year’s worth of ammunition there she thought. Shani manoeuvred her way so she could see Alyssa and keep out of Ben’s way. “Hey sweetheart, I’m Shani. I work with that guy there.” She said as she pointed to Steven, “So hear there are two of you so where do you hurt?” Shani asked her figuring Steven would have gone through it all already but a second more relaxed and sane person might have a better idea. “It’s okay baby, just stay still and Shani will give you something to stop the dizziness.” Steven said glad to see Shani actually working with Alyssa. “Unfortunately, he’s right and I can deal with the sickness too. Look, I’m going to put this collar on you for a moment sweetheart and then we can get you out okay?” Shani stated as she tried to put the C-collar around her carefully. The backboard was waiting as well as she could see one of the fifty one truck holding it for her. “We’ll side you onto this and then we’ll get you to the hospital but if you’re in pain tell me. No tough stuff now.” Shani said as she watched Ben cut out more of the dash before peeling the door back. Steven had met Beth before as he let her fit the collar on him, sure it was likely not going to stay on for long but practice made perfect. She was learning still so if he had to play like an accident victim then it was okay for scene experience. Steven laughed and nodded to her, “Yeah here’s hoping the baby has Alyssa’s looks and nope. I told you all she was real and here she is just figured you’d all meet in a better way but thanks Beth.” Steven added not being used to having a congratulations on baby, it was strange given he thought Alyssa had a bad food poisoning before as baby was the last thing he thought. “That’s great Beth.” Shani replied as Steven shook his head. The last thing he wanted was for McGuire to be overloaded and she had to focus on Alyssa as Steven knew to stay well back or well back which meant practically on top of. “Okay, no need to wait anywhere Beth you know your job. I’m fixed up so you move onto the next person until 12 and 72 get here. Triage and you’re it today.” Steven said trying to be supportive as he never took his eyes of Alyssa. “Good question... neck, shoulder and head but nothing that is too bad.” Steven said knowing he had just been jarred but then given what else he had been through. It was a minor bump. After being helped from the car Steven shook himself off, groaning a little as he rolled his shoulder and took off the collar. “Here you go, thanks.” He said as held out the collar to Beth. “Alyssa I’m right here okay, you just keep talking to me I’m not going anywhere.” He said as he stood at the back of the car where he could still hear and see but could see and hear Beth too. “So Beth, go find your next patient and tell me everything okay.” Steven said deciding that if she talking to him too, he could at least help her out as much as Shani could. STATE OF THE ART Alyssa could hear the snapping plastic and feel it moving her pinned legs from the dashboard. Somehow dinner conversation didn’t seem to be working too much. “Right now, I am not sure what will stay down.” Alyssa admitted. Between the car accident and the pregnancy her stomach felt more like doing somersaults than eating.
The glare that Alyssa sent Steven’s way was only interrupted by Ben asking if she could get her leg out. She tried and nodded as Ben told her to move. Next there was Shani talking. When Shani said she worked with Steven, Alyssa nodded. Wasn’t this the Israeli that drove him nuts. “That guy there has a name. That’s Steven.” Alyssa pointed out. “Two yeah..” Then she spouted off all the stuff she’d given Steven about what hurt.
Everything was moving so fast but it was all still in slow motion. The C-collar made Alyssa stiffen and she instantly tried to pull away. Though she gave in not soon after. “I’m alright. The baby is okay.” Alyssa grabbed at the side of the car. “No, I’m not going anywhere right now.” Something in her had snapped. Not being able to see Steven or know he was okay. No she was panicking. Panic mode wasn’t something normal for Alyssa. Hormones dictated otherwise right now. Her breathing picked up and she tried to figure out what she was going to say.
Beth smiled as he laughed. “I knew she was real. Steven I’m just pulling your leg.” She liked to joke around with him because she knew he could take it and deal it without it getting anywhere near her discomfort zone. Most of the men’s innuendos landed them in trouble with her or Tanner. Even if they weren’t aimed at her, she didn’t like to hear them. Working in a firehouse well things got difficult in that department at times.
“You don’t get to throw protocol out the window just because you are head paramedic at the house Hudson.” She grabbed the collar and gave him a look. “Do not make me pull the book on you. So help me Steven. If you wont do it for yourself do it for her.” She saw Alyssa start panicking. No, she had to focus on Steven right now. “You just told me your neck hurts. The only thing that clears no neck brace is an X ray. You know how it works.” No, Beth wasn’t letting him get away with it.
Alyssa wasn’t calming down, not until she heard Steven’s voice. Her hand reached out towards him. Though it was Beth who was still talking. “Sorry Hudson, not going anywhere.” Ambulance 17 pulled up onto the scene. “On second thought you can go with Alyssa if you put this C-collar back on. Keep her calm. If I have to argue with you over it, you’re going to miss the ride with her because Shani’s gotta get her to the hospital to make sure that Alyssa and the baby are okay. She can’t wait for you. Listen to me Steven, Alyssa needs you.” He couldn’t hate her for doing her job.

Steven just tried to nod to Alyssa, he knew that he would make whatever meal she could handle but knowing what that was exactly would be a help though he knew it was hardly the time to be thinking about it. The hospital might be able to give her something more for the sickness though he was more worried about her than dinner even though he had brought up the subject. Steven was used to making idle conversation, how was the weather? Did you see the game last night? It was all to keep any patient calm and alert, this however was far from any patient this was his girlfriend. Being grateful to a fire-fighter for digging him out from under that glare, Ben had better timing in that moment than he ever had. Still it was Shani who was next in the firing line as he smirked hearing what Alyssa pointed out. Shani just rolled her eyes, “I know his name sweetheart I just choose not to use it. His ego hardly needs to be any bigger.” Shani stated wondering how Steven had even managed to get a girl like Alyssa to look at him. He had to have promised her money or yeah she was hardly even going to go into the other options. “If you are thinking about food, try ginger ale the none alcoholic kind and crackers. It worked for me when I had my two.” Shani suggested, not wanting to get involved but she knew a thing or two about the sickness. It had floored her for a few weeks but then thanks to a word with some other women she managed to find a combination that allowed her to still eat. Shani watched Alyssa pull away though she was hardly going to given in that easily as he eventually she managed to get the collar on the woman. “Listen until you tell me you have a medical degree, I will be the judge of that followed by a doctor.” Shani replied seeing her grab the side of the car. This woman was crazy as she watched her go into panic mode, hormonal people were a nightmare. “Just take a breath and calm down before you do yourself or the baby any harm.” She said hoping to get through to Alyssa though right then she figured it was Steven wherever that idiot had gotten to who would save the day for her. Steven smirked at Beth, she was a good kid or well kid in his eyes though he did wonder how many people thought he was making the whole girlfriend thing up. “Yeah yeah, well now you know and about the baby too so I’m asking you keep it quiet because I’ve not even told the family yet.” He added not too sure how that was going to go down. “Well what’s the point in being head paramedic if I can’t?” Steven asked raising his brow at her mostly because, he was head paramedic and sure he might not have been working that day but it still counted. “What is it with you? Spent too much time with the Israeli right? Need a new partner to bring back the zen balance of life? I’ll do one better, you work a shift with me and I’ll teach you all the stuff you need to know.” Steven asked as he wished he had said nothing to her at all about his neck. No he was fine, he knew it. It was simply a case of whiplash likely or just a jar that had been unexpected. Steven was trying to dig his heels in about things, that was until he saw Alyssa’s hand reached out toward him. Steven glanced at Beth as he shook his head, “Fine give it back and I’ll wear it all the way to the hospital.” He stated, “And sure I will keep her calm but you need to leave that guy to 17 because you’re driving us. Never let the Israeli drive. That is a life lesson from the head paramedic and good job too, not letting a patient dictate their care.” He said almost through gritted teeth but at least Beth put her foot down. He made his way back to the car as he tried to take hold of Alyssa’s hand and smiled. “It’s okay, you’re okay just take a deep breath.” He repeated softly to her. “We’re going to get you to the hospital.” He added as he wrapped an arm around her wanting her to know that she would be okay. To say that the accident was just one of life’s incidents, no it had terrified him even more on top of the baby news. He still had no clue how he had missed it but then the idea had never been in his head until it was a proven reality now. Alyssa Zorin,

STATE OF THE ART Alyssa barely acknowledged Shani and Steven and something about ginger ale and being okay when her body relaxed. Her eyes closed and she was out of it. Beth was already on the move after giving Steven the word she wouldn’t tell. She began backing the ambulance up to them as close as she could get, she stayed in with the engine running. The moment she was loaded they were going to be gone. Alyssa was hooked up to the monitors in the back of the ambulance, she could still hear things going on around her but responding with her voice or with movement was near impossible. No, she didn’t want to open her eyes. The C-collar felt like it was keeping her in place, but even without it on. At some point she could hear the sirens in the ambulance. Ambulance? Where was she? What was going on? What had happened? Where was Steven? So many questions and not enough answers.
“ETA 4 minutes to Med.” Beth called as she checked both ways before going through the red light. No, she was trying to avoid accidents but driving as fast as possible. There was a balance and Beth had figured it out. It had taken a while but driving around Chicago enough had given her the experience she needed.

Steven was trying to keep it together and not to second guess everything another paramedic did but he was failing badly. For one the only paramedic he had an issue with was treating Alyssa and unfortunately Steven would have it no other way. Jumping in the back of the ambulance as he shut the doors he watched as Alyssa was hooked up to the monitors. He was trying to read things, to practically do Shani’s job until he was shoved into the seat and scolded for touching things. “Make it two please.” Steven said not wanting to rush Beth but then this was no ordinary day and he had lost one wife to a car accident, he had no plans in losing a girlfriend and a baby to one either. He tried to breathe though that fear as he reached for Alyssa’s hand in an attempt to hold it gently. His other hand reached out toward her face, the backs of his fingers stroking against her cheek as he tried to think of something smart to say. What was there smart to even say about this, he had been driving and it was his fault they were in this mess. “Alyssa, just stay awake. Talk to me.” He asked her softly, “We’re almost at Med, just keep your eyes open and talk to me okay.” Steven knew they needed to do a lot of talking. Mainly about what the plans were going to be to deal with the news they had. For one living arrangements, what Alyssa wanted to do about it all, how she felt about things and the fact that he wanted to do what he could for her whatever choices were made. Then again the back of an ambulance was hardly the best place for those sorts of conversations but that morning had been a shock. A shock he should have seen and thought of long before getting the news from a doctor. He was a medic, he was supposed to see these things which sure on anyone else he might have but his girlfriend. No had he missed the boat on that one. Alyssa Zorin,

STATE OF THE ART Alyssa was hardly beginning to like this Shani person but she had to trust her. Surely the woman didn’t hate Steven as much to leave her in pain or to wish ill will on her. Though that was a forgotten thought as she could feel consciousness getting harder and harder. Something about names and egos. The conversation about ginger ale didn't even register with Alyssa as it went in one ear and out the other.
Right, two minutes? In this traffic. “I’ll see what I can do. Lights and sirens don’t mean much to people like they used to.” She moved around into the lanes that were moving as quickly as possible. Though she could hear the monitors from the BP dropping and she laid on the horn on top of the lights and sirens. People really needed to learn to get out of the way.
Alyssa rolled her head over and started coming around conscious just about the time they pulled up into med. All she could see were faces. No, she’d been in a car and now she was staring up at the hospital through the window. The back opened up quickly and hospital staff was flocking. Beth put a hand on Steven’s shoulder. “They will both be alright. She’s in good hands.” Beth was trying to be optimistic. “I’m gonna go check her in. I will come by and see you in a bit.” Beth knew it was hard for her ‘boss’ and so she wanted to be there in anyway that she could.

Steven nodded to Beth; he knew the drill and people often never really moved. Ironic that they would scream for others to move but never take the action themselves. “I don’t care if you have to run them over, just make them move.” Steven said knowing he likely sounded insane but then Alyssa meant the world to him and couple with a car accident, a pregnancy and traffic. No he was losing the will to be anything like calm pretty quickly. He wanted her there in the hospital where they could do a lot more for her than just now. There were days when he wished he had no understanding of what BP was or what the numbers meant. Today was just that day as he tried to not override the other medic, even if the Israeli gave him hell most days. Pulling up to med there was no feeling of relief that they were there as he did his best hovering as he hopped out of the ambulance to help them bring Alyssa down from it. Steven was about to move with the group when he felt Beth’s hand on his shoulder. Yeah she might be new but she was good he thought as he tried to smile at her. “Hey, good work today and thanks for keeping your head on straight.” Steven said, maybe the nutty Israeli did have a good partner or at least one that could put up with the nutty paramedic. Steven hardly waited to hover as he followed Alyssa in, he pulled the C-collar off deciding to leave it at the front desk as they passed into the emergency room. He could see Alyssa wheeled into a room as he felt the familiar move by a nurse to push him away. Yes he might be there as family or boyfriend but like hell he was going to wait outside. “Medic and move.” He stated as he pushed past the nurse and entered the buzz of the room. “Alyssa, please just stay with us okay. Don’t close your eyes just stay awake.” He asked as he reached out to take her hand in his. Alyssa Zorin,

[attr="class","Alyssaner"] [attr="class","Alyssaner1"] [attr="class","Alyssaback"] [attr="class","Alyssanert"] Alyssa had given into the sleep, despite Steven pleading her not to do so. Waking up she could vaguely make the outline of her boyfriend in the room. Sitting up she tried to get her bearings. “Steven,” it was more like a low whine but she wasn’t usually her way of things. Sighing she rubbed her temples. Headache and her neck hurt. Though nothing was broken and she was lucky her leg was just badly bruised underneath all the scrapes. “How’s your head?” Of course she was going to ask about him. He was too stubborn for his own good. She looked up as Lucas came into the room after tapping lightly on the door. She had no idea how long she had been asleep for but it was long enough for all of her scans to come back. She deduced as much as she heard Lucas talking to Steven. “Her scans and the baby’s all came back clean.” Lucas wasn’t usually in the ER but the maternity ward had wanted him to take a look at Alyssa given his expertise. “Heart rate is normal.” He took a glance at Alyssa before looking back to Steven. “Unfortunately, anything major we can give her for pain is a no go.”Alyssa just glared at the obstetrician. Was he serious right now? Not that she couldn’t handle the pain but she felt like she had been hit by a train. “I want her on bed rest for the next few weeks taking it easy. Her body needs to heal, right now the oxygen levels to the baby are lower than I would like to see; though not dangerously low. As she heals and becomes less stressed things should go back to normal. But for now, she’s in the high risk category and I want to see her once a week.” There was a thud as Alyssa dropped her hand on the bedside. It was followed by a groan and inevitably a sigh. No she wasn’t even going to argue with things, it was not worth the battle. No, she was just going to try and get comfortable. Really, hiding right about now was on her to do list.
